Delimitation panel proposes carving out of addl constituency in some JK dists to balance representation

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) The Delimitation Commission for Jammu and Kashmir has proposed carving out an additional constituency for some districts to balance the representation for geographical areas having inadequate communication and lack of public conveniences due to their remoteness or location along the border. In a statement issued after the meeting of the Commission with its associate members, the five Lok Sabha members from Jammu and Kashmir, the panel also said that in the Union Territory, since the last delimitation, the number of districts has increased from 12 to 20 and number of tehsils from 52 to 207. The population density in the districts of the Union Territory varies from 29 persons per square km in Kishtwar to 3,436 persons per square km in Srinagar. New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met with chief executives of leading companies across sectors ranging from banking to telecom, to health and electronics, for inputs for the next year's Budget. Traders can import refined palm oil without licence till end of Dec 2022: Govt

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) The government on Monday said traders will be allowed to import refined palm oil without licence for one more year till December 2022, a move aimed at increasing domestic supplies and bring down prices of cooking oils. In June, the government removed import restrictions on refined palm oil till December 31 this year as prices of edible oils had risen sharply. Import of 'refined bleached deodoerised palm oil' and 'refined bleached deoderised palmolein' is "free for a period up to December 31, 2022", according to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It, however, added that the import is not permitted through any port in Kerala. Earlier, these imports were under the restricted category wherein an importer needed a licence or permission from DGFT for inbound shipments. TN records 605 coronavirus cases, 6 fatalities

Chennai, Dec 20 (PTI): Tamil Nadu on Monday recorded 605 new COVID-19 positive cases and six deaths due to the infection, thus taking the total number of cases reported till date to 27,40,411 and the toll of fatalities to 36,686. Three passengers who returned from UAE, a passenger each from Ghana and the UK, who tested positive, added to the 605 fresh infections, according to a bulletin from the Health Department. With 697 COVID-19 positive patients getting discharged after treatment today, the total recoveries so far has increased to 26,96,553. The number of active cases, including those on isolation, as on today remain at 7,172, the bulletin said. Gujarat sees 70 new COVID-19 cases, 63 recoveries

Ahmedabad, Dec 20 (PTI) Gujarat on Monday reported 70 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the tally of infections to 8,28,616, the state health department said. The COVID-19 death toll rose to 10,102 after a patient succumbed to the viral disease, it said. A total of 63 patients were discharged during the day, which raised the total number of recoveries in Gujarat to 8,17,937, the department said in a release. The number of active cases in Gujarat now stands at 577. The condition of eight patients is critical, it said. A total of 2.21 lakh people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Gujarat on Monday, raising the total number of administered doses to 8.72 crore so far. Over 138 crore vaccine doses administered in India so far, says Health Ministry

New Delhi, Dec 20 (PTI) The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India crossed 138 crore on Monday, the Union Health Ministry said.Over 58 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Monday till 7 pm, it said.According to the ministry, the daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late in the night.The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2.The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination commenced from March 1 for people over 60 years of age and those aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions.The country launched vaccination for all people aged more than 45 years from April 1. Foreign ministers of five Central Asian countries call on PM Modi

MP logs 20 new COVID-19 cases; active tally 183

Bhopal, Dec 20 (PTI) With 20 fresh cases, the COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh rose to 7,93,509 on Monday, while the recovery count increased to 7,82,796 after 17 patients were discharged from hospitals, a health official said. The death toll rose to 10,530 after a COVID-19 patient died during the day. Madhya Pradesh is now left with 183 active cases. A total of 56,771 swab samples were examined during the day, taking the number of tests conducted so far in MP to 2,30,30,597, the official added.
